Designer Lorena Ponis is the talent behind Lolo™. When she began designing jewellery, it seemed natural to use her nickname, Lolo. While the business has expanded rapidly, the distinctive name remains.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Lorena launched her first business at the age of eight – selling her home baked chocolate chip cookies at her elementary school. By high school she had moved on to creating hair accessories out of silk scarves and selling them to local salons in her Burnaby, BC neighbourhood.
“I learned at a young age how wonderful it is to create something, offer it to people and see them enjoy it,” Lorena explains. “I get the same feeling now when I see people wear Lolo Jewellery.”
Even when Lorena was pursuing a business career in international market development that saw her traveling all over the world, she was constantly looking for ways to sell interesting products. She imported various products from Mexico and South America, always thrilled when they generated sales.
Lorena began to combine her creativity with a passion for fashion by designing jewellery for babies and children. When she introduced a stunning line of women’s jewellery, it was an instant hit. She discovered a successful formula: design classic, versatile jewelry that be worn again and again, looking equally fabulous whether with a business suit, an evening gown or a pair of jeans. Lolo Jewellery has also been the choice of many beautiful brides. Beautiful, unique design and the high quality silver, gold, crystals and semi-precious stones that Lorena uses are what make Lolo jewellery stand out.
“I try to showcase the materials through the design,” Lorena says. “I start with one piece and then build a collection around it, always trying to create a timeless, elegant look.”
